Angie was presented with the Equality Advocate of the Year award at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow.
The news comes hot on the heels of Angie winning the Change Catalyst award in the Business Women Scotland / Women’s Enterprise Scotland Awards in November 2018.
Launched in 2010, Coca-Cola 5by20 is a global initiative with one purpose – to enable the economic empowerment of five million women by 2020. Run in over 60 countries around the world, Dundee is the only city in Western Europe to host the programme. In less than two years, the programme has supported 110 women, 63 of whom have launched their own business and 29 of whom continue to grow their business. Furthermore, 44 new jobs have been created, alongside over 30 volunteer opportunities. There are currently 30 mentors, male and female, including entrepreneurs, consultants, academics and business people from a range of sectors.
The Scottish Diversity Awards took place at The Trades Hall in Glasgow’s Merchant City on Thursday 28 February 2019. Now in their second year, the awards aim to highlight that there is only beauty and strength in diverse societies. The awards recognise successful individuals and businesses who regard diversity as gift that cultivates an inclusive Scotland, making the country a friendly and welcome place for everyone, regardless of their background, religion or economic status.
Angie said, “I am delighted and humbled to have been awarded Equality Advocate of the Year, which is a huge credit to the work which the Coca-Cola 5by20 Dundee programme is doing throughout the city and beyond.
“The ethos of the programme is empowering women, regardless of their background or socio-economic status, to take their dream and turn it into a reality. Although our ladies’ success stories speak for themselves, it’s fantastic to receive national recognition for our achievements. As we go forwards, we hope to attract an even more diverse group of women onto the programme, to break boundaries and really make a difference to our society.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Diversity Awards 2019 added, “We are delighted to have welcomed such exceptional personalities and role models at this year’s Scottish Diversity Awards. It was a memorable and emotional night reflecting the outstanding work that people carry out to tackle social problems. The awards provided a platform to showcase the great commitment of people and businesses that enhance our communities and raise awareness for the importance and the benefits of a diverse society. We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their incredible achievements and we hope that they will inspire others to follow their footsteps.” For further information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com, or telephone (01382) 228545.
