Adventure Circus was created in January 2015 by founder and Director, Gemma Simpson, and is a aerial, acrobatic and fitness club for people who like to do things a little differently. Gemma has a background in gymnastics and equestrian vaulting (google it!) and is generally sport mad, working also in the sport triathlon. Adventure Circus operates from a dedicated circus and cheerleading space in North Muirton and has a fantastic team of local circus instructors delivering classes for all ages, from tots to grandmothers! We also welcome guest instructors to lead specialist workshops in Perth. We thought it was about time we caught up with her and found out what makes her tick (and twirl!):

What three words would your best friend use to describe you?
Smiley
Determined
Acrobatic

What’s on your iPod/playing in your car these days?
Usually music from our shows!

Who’s your favourite James Bond actor?
Daniel Craig I think, and Gemma Arterton in the scene when she is covered in the oil!

Your house is on fire, what one item do you save?
Presuming my husband Greg is also doing the saving with me, we’d grab the cats.

Last meal on earth?
Spanish tapas and the waffle desert from the Bridge of Earn village inn.

Dream dinner party guests?
When all your friends are either from your childhood or the circus, you have the dream dinner party guests every week!

First thing you’d do if you won £1million?
I expect I would cry with joy!

Quiet night in or big night out?
I think a big night out, any excuse to get dressed up!

City break or weekend in the country?
Since Perth is basically countryside, I’d say city break, but my favourite is the beach.

Early bird or night owl?
Night owl for sure.

Save it or spend it?
Personally I am a saver, for the business I love to spend!

Couch potato or fitness fanatic?
Errrr fitness fanatic

Home or abroad?
There’s no place like home.

Early or late?
I am always, always, always late

Cats or dogs?
I love all animals, but cats suit my lifestyle best so I have two ginger cats at home.

Happiest memory?
Getting married, travelling around New Zealand and our theatre show last year, Destination, are probably my top three.

And most embarrassing?
Like I would write that here!

Biggest regret?
Not having a gap year to see the world. When I was at school, no-one had a gap year. So now I am trying to make up for lost time.

What are you proudest of?
My husband for putting up with me and everyone who has been part of the Adventure Circus journey so far.

Who do you admire most?
Probably my parents for their ability to multi-task when I was growing up, and for giving my brothers and I such a happy childhood.

And who do you detest?
I am known to moan about people who appear to have no drive and ambition!

Who would you like to thank?
Respondent skipped this question

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Go on a gap year!

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
I could list any number of circus tricks, but I’d say unicycle is my current nemesis. My husband would say working the Dyson (but it has so many buttons how does anyone know how it works!!)

Hardest thing you’ve had to give up?
I don’t think I have given up anything!

Could you save someone’s life if they were dying in the street?
I would give it a good try!

What keeps you awake at night?
Usually thinking of all the things I want to do with the circus

And your biggest critic?
As a performer, every audience I have ever had!

Mobile phone ringtone?
Hmmm whatever the default one is on the Huawei??
