PBN Charity Race Night 05/02/2010
PBN’s fund-raising for our chosen charity Home-Start Perth gallops on with a Fun Race Night for PBN members, families and friends which takes place on Friday, 5 March 2010 in the Centenary Suite of McDiarmid Park, Perth. Tickets are only £10 to include stovies and sandwiches so book now, in order not to be disappointed, as we still have some tickets remaining from the 80 available. At our March evening race meeting, there will be eight races and in the starting boxes for each race will be eight horses and jockeys. We’re delighted that we already have four race sponsors who are: • Crerar Scotland’s & Fishers Hotel • MD Promotions • Perth FM • Perthshire Property Services • Romera Designerwear Four remaining races are still available to sponsor at a cost of £25 per race and the sponsor’s company logo will be advertised on the “Big Screen” prior to each race. Each horse and jockey costs £5 to sponsor and the name of each sponsor will feature in the programme. Some of the 64 horses and 64 jockeys in total have already been sponsored but there’s still a number waiting to be claimed. We’re trying to sell as many as possible in advance of the Race Meeting but they can also be bought on the night by anyone attending, not only PBN members, but also by those unable to come along to the Race Night who still wish to lend their support to Home-Start Perth. Perth FM radio will also be broadcasting from the Race Night and interviewing some race-goers. You can stake your claim to a race, a horse or a jockey by contacting Martine Douglas on 01738 449633 or email martine18@hotmail.co.uk. Martine will also have tickets for sale and the Race Sheet listing the runners and riders looking for sponsorship at PBN’s February lunch on the 24th. We’re also looking for eight prizes for the horse winners and eight prizes for the jockey winners. This can be anything from a bottle of wine or spirit, chocolates, small gift voucher (£5 - £10) so again please either contact Martine or let Sandra know if you can help by emailing info@perthshirebusinesswomen.co.uk. This will be our last major fund-raiser for Home-Start Perth, our 2009/10 chosen charity, so remember to invite your family and friends, male and female, along to a winning evening for all involved.
£1,350 raised from PBN Charity Shop 23/01/2010
A magnificent £1,350.10 was raised for Home-Start Perth through the charity shop organised by PBN in St John's Shopping Centre, Perth in January. Opening its doors at 12 noon on Thursday 14th to a patiently waiting queue, the shop ran until Saturday 16th and many bargains were to be had. We even had the honour of having the shop described by shoppers as a "quality charity shop". Although it took a lot of work to put this together, our thanks go to everyone who contributed in any way, be it by giving us donations, helping in the set up, to staffing and dismantling it. Great fun was had along the way and added to this was a fantastic sense of achievement at the final amount raised when we shut shop for the last time on Saturday. Local media gave us good coverage with editorial as well as photos in the Courier and the Evening Telegraph. We also received superb support from St John’s Shopping Centre who provided the unit and British Home Stores who supplied the fixtures and display material which were a tremendous help so we would also like to express our appreciation to them as well as to our members Adele Hamilton & Marlene White of Integro Personal Image Consultants for their help in styling the shop and windows which certainly attracted the attention of passers by and encouraged them to pop in. PBN's fund-raising for Home-Start continues with a Race Night on Friday, 5 March 2010 at McDiarmid Park, Perth

Charity begins at Home-Start Perth for PBN 09/07/2009
PBN is delighted to announce that its nominated charity for 2009–2010 is Home-Start Perth, which is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. Volunteers offer regular support and practical help to young families under stress, in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. Home-Start operates schemes throughout the UK, but each one is autonomous and must generate its own funding etc. Home-Start Perth is the oldest of the Scottish schemes and will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year. Jean Phillips, Chairperson, said “Home-Start Perth is delighted to hear that the scheme has been chosen as Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network’s chosen charity for 2009–2010. In these days of funding uncertainties, all financial help is much appreciated and this will help us to continue to support vulnerable families in times of need throughout Perth & Kinross. The support of the Businesswomen’s Network will also be crucial in raising the profile of Home-Start Perth and increasing awareness of this local charity that helps around 100 families every year.” PBN Chair, Helen MacDonald, said “Our committee unanimously selected Home-Start as our charity this year from a shortlist of six very worthwhile causes. We wanted to give our support to a local charity and the clearly worthwhile objectives of Home-Start Perth self-evidently impressed all committee members a great deal. It will be a privilege to be able to help.” Over the last five years, previous charities supported by PBN have been Rachel House in Kinross, Mercy Ships, Bravehearts, Open Minds ENABLE and Macmillan Cancer Support.
