First Scottish women’s business awards makes final call for entries

Business Women Scotland magazine (BWS) and Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) have joined forces to hold the first collaborative business awards for women in Scotland.

Created to highlight the achievements of the growing numbers of women-led businesses in Scotland,  the awards dinner will be held in Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow on Thursday, October 26.

The awards event offers the opportunity for business organisations and leaders in Scotland to come together and support the vision of a more gender balanced ecosystem. Building a foundation to encourage greater diversity of thought and innovation.

A spokeswoman said: “We are delighted to announce that our speakers include the female co-founder of a ‘unicorn’ tech company in the UK, Jessica Butcher. Jess is Co-Founder and CMO at Blippar, the global market-leading augmented reality platform adopted by many of the world’s most famous brands and media publications including Coca-Cola, Unilever, L’Oreal, Conde Nast and Forbes. Blippar has the unique power to turn any physical, printed image or product into an instantaneous, interactive digital experience and Jess will share with us the experience of creating a rapid-growth tech venture right here in the UK.

“Our speakers also include (by video as she is on holiday) Jayne-Anne Gadhia, CEO of Virgin Money and the longest serving CEO of any European bank. Jayne-Anne was the catalyst for the Women in Finance Charter – a commitment by firms to work together for gender equality which is transforming the financial services sector in Scotland and the UK.

“The judging panel for the awards will be led by Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, founder of Genius Gluten Free Foods and Dr Lesley Sawers Scotland Commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and business founder.

“Our MC for the evening is journalist and broadcaster Rachel McTavish. In the last 15 years Rachel has worked for ITV, BBC, FIVE, GMTV, STV, ITV London and can be seen reading the news on STV.

“We are keen that business organisations and business leaders join us on the night to hear from our speakers and to mark the achievements of women in business across Scotland. We are especially keen that women working in sectors such as tech, have the opportunity to hear first-hand from our inspirational speakers.

“While the awards mark the achievements of women-led businesses, it remains critical that men and women work together to inspire the next generation and achieve a vibrant, prosperous and diverse business ecosystem in Scotland. Everyone will be welcome at the awards event and we look forward to celebrating together on the night. Please do join us.”

Closing date for entries is September 4, 2017.
